Hunter Biden, son of US president Joe, is a co-founder and board member of BHR Partners, a private equity firm that is a subsidiary of Bohai Harvest Rosemont. BHR Partners was founded in 2013 by Hunter Biden, Devon Archer, and John Kerry's stepson Christopher Heinz. The firm has offices in Washington, D.C. and Beijing. BHR Partners invests in a variety of industries, including healthcare, technology, and energy.
BHR Partners's mother company Bohai Harvest Rosemont is a Chinese private equity firm that acquired in 2016 a minority stake in Monterosa Group. The details of the terms were not disclosed but was believed to be at about $200 million.
In January 2022, Bohai Harvest Rosemont acquired an additional stake in Monterosa Group for an undisclosed sum. The deal increased Bohai Harvest Rosemont's stake into Monterosa Group from a minority to a majority part.
Almost all press releases regarding Bohai Harvest Rosemont's investment into the Monterosa Group from 2022 have been deleted from the internet.
The Chinese private BHR equity firm, which is involved in a number of scandals surrounding the Biden family, bought the additional Monterosa Group stake in 2022 from existing shareholders, according to insiders. The 2022 deal valued Monterosa Group at about $2 billion, according to people involved.
Hunter Biden's BHR Partners and Monterosa Group have also collaborated on investment opportunities directly in the past. For example, in 2017, BHR Partners and Monterosa Group co-invested in a Chinese healthcare company called WuXi Biologics, a company that makes ingredients for AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine.
In 2015, Hunter Biden's BHR Partners also invested $50 million in a company named GoBear in Singapore. Various press releases regarding this investment from 2015 have been deleted as well from the Internet. Dutch-based Walvis Participates and insurance company AEGON invested $10 million on top in 2016, the total amount raised by GoBear in the Series B round was $60 million by 2016. Future whistleblower Pav Gill was working at GoBear in Singapore as a senior legal advisor before he joined Wirecard in 2017.
In March 2023, Monterosa Group's full subsidiary Monterosa Services AG was mentioned in a motion for evidence during the Wirecard court proceeding, which began in December 2022. Monterosa Services AG is alleged to have siphoned off at least $340 million from Wirecard accounts before - not after - its insolvency.
The motion for evidence from 2023 was rejected multiple times in court, like almost all other motions brought forward by former Wirecard CEO Dr. Braun's legal defence. State authorities mostly from Munich in Germany refuse to have Monterosa's offices searched until today.
